Our Principles
The Education Initiative for Africa’s Digital Education Flagship project is an initiative aimed at using digital tools to improve access to education across the entire learning ecosystem. The project aims to improve teaching, content and general access through the use of targeted digital tools.
Made-for-purpose devices
EIA aims to provide schools with low-cost made-for-purpose devices aimed at teachers and students. The devices are sourced from pre-owned devices which are repurposed to meet the specific needs of learning in rural environments.
Types of devices
The project aims to deliver 3 types of devices:
Connectivity
We understand that most rural communities are not connected to the internet. This makes it a challenge to deliver evolving learning content. We work with governments to utilise their district education offices to update the learning devices over WiFi once a month or over an agreed period.
Power / Charging
Most rural communities in Africa also do not have access to electricity. EIA pioneers made-for-purpose solar enabled charging system which allows for multiple port charging for the devices using solar power.
Content delivery
Content development and delivery is a critical area in the digital education flagship project. EIA works with governments to deliver quality educational content in both international and local languages.
Our content delivery arm also does the following:
Teacher capacity building
The evolving nature of I requires teachers to participate in life-long studies. However, life-long teacher training opportunities in developing communities of Africa are scarce and require teachers to apportion their own time and funds. The ever-evolving nature of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) not only makes it essential for a modern teacher to be equipped with ICT skills but also continue updating it to keep up with the best and the latest trends. This makes it important that the ICT supported distance education systems are available for the new age technology-driven growth.
Beyond this need, those engaged in training teachers should have a sound level of familiarity with ICT to encourage and pass on these skills to future teachers. ICT skills passed on to teachers not only enhance pedagogy but directly help students become globally competitive workers.
The Education Initiative for Africa (EIA) aims to equip teachers in rural parts of Africa with made-for-purpose devices equipped with content that drives self-learning and monitored learning. This would exponentially grow the capacity of countries to develop their teachers into the best teachers they possibly can be.
EIA would work with governments to create development plans for teachers to allow learning to be relevant and traceable

Types of devices
The project aims to deliver 3 types of devices:
- Smartphones to enable audio learning and teacher self-learning (both for teachers and students)
- Tablets to allow multi-platform and multi-sensorial learning for both teachers and students
- Micro-projectors to enable group learning. This makes it more effective when we utilise video teaching to help manage the challenges of human capital and teacher quality.

Our content delivery arm also does the following:
- Enables video content to be shared which allows us to launch a twinning program between international schools ad African rural schools to facilitate learning and cultural exchange
- Enables quality teachers to remotely teach rural schools through video learning
- Allows us to deliver life lessons and important non-curricula teaching to schools
- Reducing the pressure on teacher capacity through digital learning delivery where teachers may not need to be present to deliver teaching
